How to covert an .epub and have it on your Kindle in 30 seconds

For this quick tutorial I’m using an issue of Salon Futura fiction magazine, the free science fiction and weird fantasy magazine.

Download the free .epub file. Then download the excellent freeware Calibre. Now there’s a simple four-step conversion process…

1. Locate and load your .epub file.

2. Select Convert | Convert Individually.

3. Select Convert to .mobi format. No need to configure this, a straighforward conversion should be fine.

4. Now connect your Kindle’s USB cord to your desktop, then send your converted file as a .mobi file to the Kindle. Or you can email it to your Amazon Kindle address.

It’s done!

Disclaimer: don’t produce commercial ebooks this way! You may find that tables (larger than two columns) don’t covert well. The same goes for poetry, and some types of images. Blockquote sections (i.e.: indented quotes) may also be mangled.
