UK Kindle Store statistics

The UK’s main online techie news site, The Register, reviews the Kindle 3 today. Only one little gap in the review that I could see, re: no mention of the ease of converting .epub books to .mobi with the Calibre freeware (although the conversion quality is only suitable for personal use). It also has an interesting snippet about the smaller scale of the UK Kindle Store…

“Amazon reckons the UK Kindle store already has over 415,000 titles available”

This compares to 630,000 in the U.S. store at July 2010. Possibly the size of the U.S. store is partly accounted for by the USA’s slightly more sensible copyright laws, which leads to more public domain work being available than in the UK.
